Survey 9 Results

We had 173 participants in this week's survey. Thank you everyone for participating and submitting questions! :)

Conclusions

  • Be glad Justin Booth is on our side. He has the l33t skillz to protect us from the computer takeover that occurs shortly after the creation of Skynet (assuming we all survive the zombie apocalypse, of course). ;)
  • Getting an 'A' in a Spinney paper (or Mitchell paper) is one of the most satisfying achievements a PHCer can hope to attain. The next time you see a student with one of these rare beasts, take a picture – you may not get to see another one in your lifetime.
  • PHC Surveyor functioned as an "exit poll" of sorts for the Student Body President election.
    • Representative Sample: The actual election results were 142 (57%) to 109 (43%), with 251 voting. The PHC Surveyor results (for those who revealed their vote preference) were 79 (58%) for Cartee/Lonon and 57 (42%) for Nelson/Karadsheh. If we extrapolated the PHC Surveyor result percentage to the actual election participation (251 votes), Cartee/Lonon would have beaten Nelson/Karadsheh 146 to 105 votes, a mere four vote difference from the actual election results. It is likely, then, that the following demographic results are representative of the actual election.
    • Election by Demographic:
      • Men: Cartee/Lonon (58.8%) over Nelson/Karadsheh (41.3%)
      • Women: Cartee/Lonon (57.1%) over Nelson/Karadsheh (42.9%)
      • Freshmen: Nelson/Karadsheh (63.0%) over Cartee/Lonon (37.0%)
      • Sophomores: Cartee/Lonon (65.4%) over Nelson/Karadsheh (34.6%)
      • Juniors: Cartee/Lonon (66.7%) over Nelson/Karadsheh (33.3%)
      • Seniors: Cartee/Lonon (72.0%) over Nelson/Karadsheh (28.0%)
    • Only 2 of the 5 alumni who participated in the survey selected "I will not vote" :-P Let's hope they didn't get Justin Booth to help them. ;)
  • Tyler Stockton, Joe Cheatwood, and Blake Meadows were the top three voted to survive the zombie apocalypse. Ly Deming (with "her lead pipe") was voted the woman most likely to survive.
  • No big surprise, most people schedule lunch around classes. After that, we choose to hang out with friends.
    • Guys are twice as likely to stalk girls they are interested in during lunch, than girls who stalk guys. 0.o ;)
  • Arabic and French are the languages that students would most like to see offered on campus.
  • For most people, asking a girl to the Liberty Ball conveys "a little bit" of romantic interest, but it would have to be followed up by something else.
    • Guys are nearly 4x more likely than girls to think say "Yes, it probably does" convey interest.
    • Seniors are 2-4x more likely to think the Liberty Ball conveys interest and nearly 7x less likely to say "No, not at all."
    • DISCLAIMER: Okay, settle down people. ;) These are statistics of trends and averages :-P Every person is unique. Communication is key. Don't assume your date is thinking something just because he/she falls into a demographic category :-P
  • Fifty-seven percent of campus are not regular coffee/energy drink consumers (less than once per week).
    • Girls are about twice as likely to drink coffee/energy drinks (though probably not energy drinks :P) once a week or more than guys.
  • Nearly 30% of girls have never rejected a guy to a dance.
    • Top reasons for rejection? Trying not to encourage a guy who she thinks is interested, and avoiding "creepy" guys.
    • Things for guys to take away? 1) Ask, you have good chances of getting a 'yes.' 2) Don't act overly interested, keep it casual and make it comfortable for her. 3) Don't be creepy. (Suggestions on how to accomplish #3 can be sent to gregoryescobar@gmail.com to be released in the next survey :-P)
  • Most guys wouldn't mind marrying a wife who works, but would prefer she stays at home if/when kids come along.
    • Girls, remember that for the 20% of guys that said "barefoot, pregnant, and in the kitchen" ...it's a metaphor, and there was a winky face in the question. :)
That's all! Enjoy the results.

Survey 8 Results

We broke our record this week with 155 respondents! Thanks to everyone for participating.

Conclusions
  • If we every fly in a passenger jet from Sydney to Los Angeles, I get to sit next to Dr. Kucks.
    • Girls overwhelmingly favored Dr. Kucks and Dr. Favelo for their desert island companion. Guys were more than twice as likely than girls to choose Dr. Cox or Professor Russell, and more than 9x as likely to choose Dr. Mitchell.
  • President Carrillo, Vice President Enos...we approve! (88% approval rating, 10% undecided, less than 2% disapprove)
  • Forty percent of students plan to stay in the DC area.
    • Seniors are 60% more likely to stay in the DC area. Girls are more likely than guys to go overseas, and guys are 50% more likely than girls to go back to their hometown.
  • Nearly half of campus brush 2x per day. Just under 90% brush 1x-3x per day.
    • 11 people brush less than once per day. 0.o
  • Half of campus would like to be in a relationship, assuming they found the right person. One quarter of campus is in a relationship.
    • One sophomore guy and one freshman girl never plan to be in a relationship. Can we say a match? ;) (jk, guys...jk :-P)
  •  Sixty percent of campus sleeps on their side.
    • I got the most flak for this question...apparently people change from back/side/stomach at various times and can't choose just one. :-P
  • Improving student/administration relations and representing campus to the local community are the most important issues to the student body by a nearly 2-1 margin.
    • If presidential candidates/campaigns want further demographic data, contact me :-P
  • High heels are attractive to 40% of guys, 30% of guys are neutral, and a quarter of guys think high heels are insane.
  • Onion rings and curly fries win out. I guess we just like curves and circles more than straight lines.
    • Guys are more likely to like curly fries, girls like waffle and french fries.
    • Among those 11 who brush their teeth less than once per day, onion rings and french fries win out.
    •  If you like curly fries you are almost twice as likely to want to go overseas. If you like onion rings you are more likely to want to stay in DC.
    • There is no substantial difference between the rings/fries preference of those in relationships and those not. Sorry guys, you can't get a girl by eating onion rings. :-/
  • If you ask a girl to a dance three weeks out, you will please 75% of the potential girls you might ask.
    • Eight girls are incredibly gracious, will have mercy on your souls, and still go out with you if you ask the week of. (Lesson: Don't)

That's all! Enjoy the results.

Survey 7 Results

Tons of data this week. I was only able to do half the demographic analysis I wanted and we have eleven graphs this week. :) You guys have to stop being so interesting. :-P

Conclusions

  • Spring Break was good for everyone except 9 bored people. Most of us got at least some rest.
  • Dr. Cox is amazing. Just don't let him operate heavy machinery if he is taking medication.
  • Over half of campus believes Calvinism/Arminianism is a bigger deal than North/South and Republican/Libertarian issues.
    • Women are 15% more likely to think Calvinism/Arminianism is a bigger issue. Men are 10% more likely to consider North/South more daunting.
    • From the data distributed by class, we can posit that freshman care moderately about the Calvinism/Arminianism debate that only heightens over the next two years. By Senior year, though, it weighs about equally with Republican/Libertarian considerations.
  • Lime and Grape...by one vote. (Cherry aficionado's: You should have voted!)
  • Big surprise: Women are more willing to marry older guys; Men are more willing to marry younger girls.
  • If the PHC student body had a personality type, it would be an INTJ.
    • We have a huge amount of TJ's. Logical, organized, planners? Yep. That's us.
  • About half of students say the administration trusts students enough or too much. The other half says the administration (at varying degrees) trusts students "not enough."
    • Seniors were most likely to think the administration does not trust students enough.
    • Freshman were at least 20% more likely to say the administration "Trusts students enough."
    • No student voted "Trusts students too much."
  • By a slight majority, most guys are either in a relationship or "not ready"/preparing.
    • Forty-eight percent of freshmen responded "I'm not ready and need to get my life in order first."
    • No seniors responded "I like being single."
  • Girls rated upperclassmen as more "manly" than underclassman.
    • Freshmen girls are more than twice as likely to choose "very high" to rate the manliness of PHC guys.
    • Upperclassmen girls are more than twice as likely to choose "very low" to rate the manliness of PHC guys.
  • We have a hugely disproportionate amount of "Quality Time" students on campus.
    • Love Language analysis remains consistent by gender.
    • Introverts are slightly more likely to value "quality time" than extraverts, while extraverts are more likely to value "physical touch" than introverts.
    • Perhaps quality time is so valued at PHC because free time is so rare. There was not a large enough sample of alumni to indicate whether love language perception changes after graduation.

That's all! Enjoy the results.
